That's App-tacular!

Published in Untagged  by OOH

Coming up with a great idea for an application is no easy task. Executing it before anyone else can be even harder. But what makes an iPhone/mobile app a great success? I read a great post worth checking out on Geekpreneur entitled ‘Anatomy of a Successful iPhone App.’ You can find that article here. (http://www.geekpreneur.com/anatomy-of-a-successful-iphone-app)

With less than a month until the deadline for submissions for OOH, there is still time to submit content for the festival and we would certainly love to see as many applications as possible. From programs that can make a difference in your life to games that more or less manage to waste your life away, it’s starting to feel like there really is an application for everything. But that’s just an illusion. There are countless ideas waiting to be turned into applications and more individuals are beginning to look towards programming, specifically for cell phone applications, as a possible career path. For anyone hoping to launch a career as a programmer, the iPhone app store is becoming a more and more popular marketplace to upload content with the hope of hitting the jackpot and making lots and lots of money. Still, most don’t. I’d imagine for every application that sells over 1,000 copies, there’s close to 1,000 apps that are only sold one. And there’s no reason the least popular applications couldn’t be the best applications, they just aren’t quite getting the hype they deserve.

Whatever your idea may be, make sure to make it happen before someone else. If you’re an amateur programmer, all the better. A few of the best mobile applications have been created by people with very little experience. With no burden of having to make back all the money spent during development (because you don’t have to spend much more than your time), inventive programmers finally have a marketplace to distribute their product and get the recognition they deserve. So go ahead, write a mobile app. Write two. There are only a few weeks left to submit to the Out of Hand Festival and the grand prize for the best content is still $5,000!
